The wonderful 1C of 2009 have just about finished their first term.  As usual we have been very busy.

 In HSIE our unit has been  " Celebrations."  In this unit we have been looking at a variety of celebrations such as Saint Patrick's Day, Holi, Weddings, Anzac Day, Shrove Tuesday, Aboriginal Celebrations, and Easter.  We have linked our writing in HSIE to our English text types for the term.  We have written literary recounts and a variety of poems such as acrostic, catalogue  and cinquain.  We have also written recounts of our weekends in our Journals each week.

 We have listened to a variety of stories by the author May Gibbs.  We visited the Seymour Centre to see a play called "The Adventures Of Snugglepot And Cuddlepie."  This was a fantastic experience.  We painted pictures of the characters and entered them into a local competition about recycling.

Our Science unit this term has been "Let's Communicate."  We started our work by looking at the senses.  A guest speaker came in to tell us about how blind people learn to read.  She brought in a machine called a brailler.  A brailler is used to make raised dots on a page to help blind people read.  We made masks to help us communicate in  different ways.  We looked at signs and how they help us.  Some signs have words, some have pictures and some have both.  We made signs to help around our classroom.

As you can see we are very clever in 1C and work so hard at school each day!
