Welcome to 2P's class page.

The 23 students in 2P have made a wonderful start to the year. We have been busy learning lots of new things!

In English we have been writing recounts and poems. 2P has written lots of recounts about our weekends, excursions we've been on and have retold stories we have read. We have looked at lots of different forms of poetry - acrostic poems, catalogue poems, free verse poetry, rhyming couplets, limericks. We wrote a senses poem about the recent bushfires, here is an example of a one of our fabulous poems:

"See the ashes laying on the dark ground.

Hear the fire engines racing away.

Smell the smoke that's really dark.

Taste the fiery black smoke in the back of your throat.

Touch the blackened hot tree."

By Ellie

We created some beautiful artwork to accompany our poems, we used paint and charcoal. We placed a single green leaf on our artworks to symbolise the regeneration of the bush after a fire.

Our H.S.I.E. topic this term is "Celebrations". We have learned about many different celebrations from around the world like - Holi, Weddings, Chinese New Year, St Patrick's Day, Aboriginal Celebrations, Easter and Birthdays.

In Maths one of our topics has been "Time". We have been learning how to tell the time and use a calendar. We made a birthday chart to find out how many people were born in the different months of the year. We answered some questions like "Which month has the most birthdays in it?", "Which month has no birthdays in it?" and "Which season has the most birthdays in it?".

2P enjoys sport! We have been practising our throwing and catching skills by playing lots of different team games.

Our Science topic this term is "Let's Communicate". We started the unit by learning about our five senses. We were lucky enough to have a guest speaker come to talk to us about blind people. She talked to us about how blind people read, they use braille which are raised dots on a page. She brought a brailler in and we all had a go writing our names in braille with it. We also learned about tactile books. Tactile book have pictures that you can touch so blind people can feel and make a picture in their mind. We made our own tactile pictures using sand, feathers, cardboard, pop sticks and many other things.

Thank you for visiting our classroom, we hope you've enjoyed reading about all the things we have been doing!
