Welcome to 3/4M's class page for 2009!

In term one, 3/4M and Mr Hull have had a hectic but very productive start. It's been both interesting and fun and we look forward to busy and exciting learning experiences this year.

In HSIE we have been studying the topic "Who Will Buy". This incorporated an excursion to a local shop to learn about the processes that go in to running a successful business. We have developed our own shop management plans in groups from what we have learnt. We have had great fun making pet rocks to sell at a school stall to raise money for charity. Later in the year we will discover what life was like before and after British colonisation and look at state & national parks.

In Science we have been investigating different products and how they compare with each other. In the topic "What is a Processed Product?", we have learnt about the means in which fruit is canned and bread is made. Later on this year we will be studying machines and how they work, investigating an Australian animal and looking at the human body and its functions.

In Computers we have been making advertisements for our pet rocks with the help of Microsoft Publisher and Ms Weeks to promote our stall - this has been very creative and enjoyable! We are looking forward to making a clay animation in the 2nd half of the year.

The swimming carnival was a highlight of our term and almost everyone participated. We are eagerly awaiting our cross country and athletics carnivals which are coming up soon! We congratulated 7 members of our class who won places in the school PSSA netball and soccer junior teams.

In Visual Arts we produced works based on our English lessons on poetry, our Mathematics lessons on 3D shapes and our HSIE and Science lessons on food products.

Our class philosophy is that we must learn something new everyday. With this in mind - Mr Hull provides us with one interesting or freaky fact each day and we try to remember it so we can pass on our knowledge to our families.

Did you know that the oldest word in the English language is 'town'?

Did you know that strawberries provide more vitamin C than oranges?

And did you know that gnosiophobia is the fear of knowledge?

Nobody in class 3/4M fears that...
