Welcome to Kindergarten!

Children in KK have had a fabulous year so far. They have learnt many new and wonderful things! We have all settled in well and have made some new friendships. We have especially enjoyed meeting our 5/6 foster buddies. Once a week, for the first 6 weeks, we have worked with our buddies. We read, played and ate our lunch with them. They helped us settle into kindergarten and learn the rules and routines of school. We have created some wonderful artworks that reinforce what we have learnt in class. Look at our 'Five Little Speckled Frogs' we made with our buddies. These help us remember our numbers to five!

In 'English' we have learnt words that do and do not rhyme. We have especially enjoyed our 'Nursery Rhyme' unit and are now moving onto learning the sounds in the alphabet. Most of us can determine the beginning sounds in words. KK enjoy 'talking and listening' during show and tell. We can show something special and discuss it with the class. Children in KK are becoming enthusiastic writers. Three days a week, we do  independent and guided writing in our diaries. Each night we have the opportunity to take home our class friends 'Leo and Ellie'. They are our class toys and we have such fun writing about our experiences in our class book. Look at their picture!

KK have also started taking part in the home reading program which reinforces comprehension, learning words by sight and sounding out. It is encouraging us to gain a love of literature. We have especially loved the books created in the series 'Snugglepot and Cuddlepie' by May Gibbs. We even went to see a theatrical performance of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. What a treat!

In 'Mathematics' we have been learning to recognise, write and combine objects up to 10. We have learnt how to measure and compare length, sort objects by size, colour, shape and number, create and continue patterns and learn the language of position. Look at our 'm' mice climbing up the 'Hickory Dickory Dock' clock. They are all in different positions.

In the 'HSIE' unit 'School Days', we learn to become responsible for our own belongings, learn the rules and routines of school and how to be a good friend. This is also reinforced in 'PDHPE' as we learn about our personal qualities. We also promote healthy eating by eating fruit and vegetables in our 'Crunch and Munch' time, twice a week. We especially love our 'Creative and Practical Arts' sessions which are linked into our English, Maths, Science, HSIE and PDHPE units.

'Science and Technology' is exciting as we have learnt about materials.  We have investigated these materials and learnt about their properties.  We love the story of 'The Three Little Pigs'. We understand the strongest materials needed to build a house. In technology, we visit the ICT lab once a week and learn the basic functions of the computer. We are excited that we get to use our very own computers in our class!

KK have had a very fun-filled first term at school. We are looking forward to next term and learning new and wonderful things!

Thank you for visiting our webpage. We hope you have enjoyed it!
